Mrs.Betty Wade Black

 Mrs. Betty Wade Black went to be with her heavenly father on December 3, 2013 at Transitional Health Care Center.

 Betty was born August 23, 1935 in Cabarrus County.  The daughter of the late Lola Knox Wade and George Wade.  She graduated from George Washington Carver High School, Kannapolis, NC in 1952.  She also attended Rowan Community Technical College.  Most of Betty’s work Career was in Kannapolis, NC at Montgomery Ward, Cannon Mills and ended with Kannapolis City Schools.

 She was a very active member of Marable Memorial AME Zion Church where she served as Director of Christian Education, Sunday School Teacher and other Christian endeavors.

 She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was known for her delicious cooking.

 Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and son Markell.  She leaves to cherish her memory, husband, John Black, Jr., son John Black, III (Andrea), and daughter, Catherine Black Gamble, three granddaughters, Anitra, Jolyn, and Caylin, sister, Phyllis Ann Melchor and brother Michael McKenzie.  A host of nieces, nephews and friends.

 The visitation hour will be held December 7, 2013 at Marable Memorial AME Zion Church 10:00 AM with service starting at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC at 1:00 PM.

Mrs. Betty Lourine Cousar Fitzgerald

Mrs. Betty Lourine Cousar Fitzgerald departed this life on November 8, 2013, at home. She was born in Chester County, SC on January 29, 1945, to the late Daisy C. Evans, Mother,Father, John Peay.
Betty was educated at Aggery High School in Rowan County. Later in life she earned her GED at RCCC in Salisbury, NC. She was employed by Pillowtex in Kannapolis, NC, until they closed.Her health started failing in 2007. She loved family gathering with her family and she will be missed by those that knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish fond memories of her is one daughter, Patricia C. Isom (Floyd), one son,
Torey J. Cousar (Megan) both of Kannapolis, NC., three sisters, Anna Baker of Kannapolis, NC,
Carol Fourney, of Louisville, SC, Nancy Caldwell of Jacksonville, FL., one brother, William Peay
of Louisville, SC., four sister-in-laws, Shirley Jones (Melvin) of Bridgeport, CT., Essie Norris, Betty
Ann Fitzgerald and Annie B. Phillips of Alexandria, VA., one brother-in-law, Hebert Fitzgerald of
South Boston, VA., seven grandchildren, Antonia T. Cousar, Kina Lori Cousar, Taylor Cousar,
Troy Cousar, Romella Tamara Moody, Ja Quasha Littlejohn and James Littlejohn  all of
Kannapolis NC.

Eight great grandchildren, Dontai’ Cousar, Kevon Cousar, De’ Terius Moody, La’Diamond Lowery,
Jani’ Pore, Eryn Moody, Janniya Moody, and Timothy Moody. all of Kannapolis, NC.  Loved by a host of
nieces, newphews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services, Wednesday, November 13, 2013, Rose Hill Baptist Church. Visitation 2:00 pm, followed by the funeral at 2:30 pm. Interment : Rose Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Landis, NC.

Myrtle Dawkins

Mrs. Myrtle E. Dawkins, 89, died May 22,2013, at Five Oaks Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 12 p.m., at Kannapolis Mortuary Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held 30 minutes prior to the service, on Wednesday.

Mrs Dawkins is survived by daughters, Claudette Dawkins and Bernia Jjohnson; son, Johnny Dawkins; and their childrens. Interment will be in the VA National Cemetery, in Salisbury, NC.

Gwendolyn Black

Mrs. Gwendolyn W. Black, 59, of Kannapolis passed away on February 8, 2013 at Northeast Medical Center, Concord, NC.

Gwendolyn was born in Meherrin, Virginia to the late Raymond Watson and Curtis Eggleston Watson on March 28, 1953.  Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, 2:00 PM at Marable Memorial AME Zion Church, Kannapolis, NC.  Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. William McKenith and Rev. Maurice Harding, Eulogist.  The family will receive friends on Saturday 30 minutes prior to the service.

Gwendolyn is survived by her mother, Mrs. Curtis Eggleston Watson of Meherrin, VA; one daughter, Ms. Charlene Black of Kannapolis and two sons, Vernon Black, III of New York and Thomas (LaRhonda) Black of Durham, NC; two sister, Mrs. Octavia (Roger) Allen of Raleigh, NC and Mrs. Ja’Near (Daniel) Jefferson of Meherrin, VA.; one brother, Randy (Priscilla) Watson of Farmville, VA.  Seven grandchildren and many friends and other relatives.

Interment will follow the service at Bethpage United Presbyterian Church USA.

Robert Lee Pearson

Robert Lee Pearson, son of Williams and Julia Pearson was born on January 2, 1935 in Concord, North Carolina.  He was educated in the Cabarrus County School System. Upon graduating from high school, Robert served as a Marine in the Korean war.

After returning from the war Robert married Betty Jo Cannon on June 30, 1056. Robert and Betty relocated to New Jersey where they raised their six children they wereblessed with.  He was employed by the Veteran”s Administration Hospital of East Orange, NJ for over 30 years until he retired,  He was loved by all who knew him. He had a great sense of humor and would always make you laugh in some way of another.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo, daughters: Elaine Strickland (Clifton), Sherry Porter (Dennis), Trudy Pearson, Andrea Pearson, Renee Pearson, Sheila Johnson. Son: Robert Lee Pearson, Jr. (El-Wanda), sixteen grand-children, and fifteen great-grand-children and a host of other family and friends.

Mr. Jimmie Lee Wilson, 76, of Kannapolis, died on June 9, 2012
at Northeast Medical Center.

Ms. Verlass Lee Maxwell

Ms. Verlass Lee Maxwell was the daughter of the late Thomas Maxwell and Mary Roberts Maxwell. She was born in Allegheny County, North Carolina on October 5, 1948.  She departed this life on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  She is also preceded in death by 5  sisters, Catherine McCorkie, Rosa Lee Maxwell, Joanne Maxwell Patterson and Jeraldine Jackson (twins) and Dorothy McMillian, a grandson, Anthony Rhyne.

She attended the Allegheny County Schools and was a longtime employee of Cannon Mills (Pillowtex), Plant 1 in Kannapolis, NC.

Ms. Maxwell leaves to cherish the memory of her life a husband of  17 years, Leonard McCorkie, a daughter, Verleen Maxwell Bennett (Jimmy) of Kannapolis, NC, a son, Abraham Maxwell of Concord, NC,  2 brothers, Glenn Maxwell and Thomas Maxwell both of Kannapolis, NC, 5 sisters, Mary Maxwell, Magaline McCorkie (Edward), both of Kannapolis, NC,  Elizabeth Maxwell of New York, Nancy Drye, of Kenneth Square, PA, Nanny Mae (Rev. Mrs. Evenlyn Mungo Robinson



Mrs. Evelyn Mungo Robinson, daughter of the late Robert “Bob” Mungo and the late Ethel Newman Mungo was born in Kershaw County SC. November 22,1929.

She departed this life on May 9, 2012.  She was preceded in death by her husband Wylie Robinson, two sons, Dewey H. Robinson and Ivan C. Robinson and brother Robert “Bob” Mungo, Jr, grand-daughter, Nicole Bolden.

Mrs. Robinson attended Kershaw County Schools and later after marriage moved to Charlotte, NC, where she worked as a seamstress for Carolina Uniforms Company for many years.  She was a marvelous cook and loved to make Quilts and other sewing projects. She was a very loveable person in her community and very helpful.

She leaves loving memories for her children, Bryan Keith Robinson (Tabitha Tarshelle), with whom she resided, Willie Nelson Robinson (Evelyn). Charles Robinson, Ronald Robinson, Daughters, Wendalyn Bolden, Tammy Griffin, (Jeff), two brothers, Clifton Mungo (Pamela). Mark Mungo (Carrie), three sisters, Elizabeth Mungo Smith (Jerome), Carletta Mungo Foster (Arnold), Euthemia Mungo, 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins.
